Q: Does the procedure really need 8 hours? What happen if I take the equipment of before that?
A: YES. For a complete reading, the capsule recording should be no less than 8 hours; the approximate travel time in the GI tract is 8 hours. Otherwise, the procedure might have to be repeated.
Q: Should I quit smoking before and during capsule endoscopy? If so, why?
A: YES. It is our recommendation that you stop smoking prior to and during the procedure for the best result. There has been concern that smoking may alter the appearance of the gastric mucosa.
Q: Can I have Vitamin Water (or same kind of drink)? It is clear and transparent also.
A: Avoid the one with RED, PURPLE, and ORANGE coloring.
Q: Can I have gum during the 8-hour procedure?
A: NO.
Q: Why should I stop having the iron supplement three days before the procedure?
A: The iron supplement will distort the images on the video.
Q: What should I do if I happened to have food less then 10 hours before the test?
A: Please notify as soon as possible, and instructions will be given on case-by-case basis.
Q: What activity to avoid during the 8 hours of the study?
A: Avoid exercising and heavy lifting
Q: Can I be close to the MRI machine before / during / after the procedure?
A: NO. You should not be close the MRI machine until 3 days after the procedure.
Q: If my insurance does not cover this procedure, what other choices do I have?
A: We accept cash-basis patient. Please contact our staff for further information.
Q: I heard from my friend that in some case I might need to ask for pre-authorization from my insurance company; is it true?
A: YES, some patients might need to have the pre-authorization. We will assist you in obtaining pre-authorization needed.
